Cavs Rewind + The Week Ahead

Cavs Rewind + The Week Ahead

Looking back at last week

Cavs this week –

 Nuggets, Spurs, Wizards, and Raptors

The Cavs finally looked like the sexy basketball machine we all expected last week. They finished the week 3-0 with wins over the Pelicans, Celtics, and Hawks.

Pelicans:

Ryan Anderson came out shooting like Reggie Miller from NBA Hangtime, straight fire, on the way to 21 points in the first half and the Cavs trailed by 5 at the break.  LeBron and Kyrie did LeBron and Kyrie things in the 3rd quarter and the Cavs finished strong with some Kevin Love three balls to win 118-111.

LeBron finished the game with a triple double but then the NBA stats guys went all Danny Ocean and stole an assist. Is 32-11-9 still good?

Side bar: Anthony Davis is basically the human version of the movie Avatar – dude is straight from planet Pandora.  And his unibrow is like Sampson’s hair.  When LeBron passes the torch of league’s best player it’s getting handed to the ‘Brow.

Celtics:

I was so pissed off for 75% of this game (the first three quarters).  We got down by 18 to Tyler Zeller’s Boston Celtics. Pathetic.  Then Kyrie got pissed too and scored 13 points in what seemed like 45 seconds to start the 4th.  LeBron scored 10 in the last six minutes and Rondo looked like a fat guy in a vegan restaurant (scared and uncomfortable) when he bricked the final shot to secure the W for the good guys. Love added 12 and 15 boards.

Hawks:

Total domination by the Cavs.  We set a new NBA record for most made threes without a miss in a quarter (9 for 9) and actually made 11 straight before missing.  We led by 28 at halftime and won by 33.  Bron-Love-Kyrie combined for 65.  Smokin’ Joe Harris – we’re making that a thing – had 12 big ones.

Yesterday we played like ass against the Nuggets.  Zero defense. Zero offense aside from four players. Zero intensity. Zero sense of urgency. I think we got cocky after the win streak and walked out expecting to roll without any effort.  It’s still the NBA, guys. Gotta bring it every night. (I’m blaming this loss 100% on LeBron’s sniffles)

UPCOMING:

San Antonio comes to town Wednesday night.  There is no way we come out flat against the defending champs.  LeBron won’t let it happen after the way he got rolled in the finals.  The Spurs have already started resting starters less than 10 games so they’ll be ready to play everyone vs. us.  Kind of sucks knowing you get everyone’s best shot every night.

We go to Washington on Friday.  I’d like to see this rivalry get renewed this year. It was always fun playing the Gilbert Arenas-Caron Butler-Antawn Jamison Wizards back in LeBron’s first stint.  I think we knocked them out of the playoffs like 4 straight years.  Paul Pierce and LeBron is always worth watching even if Paul Pierce has one foot in the grave at this point. I expect Dion to talk a lot of shit this game after Bradley Beal called him out in the offseason. Kyrie vs. John Wall is a matchup of 2 of the brightest young point guards in the league. I imagine John Wall will come out with something to prove because he was cut from the Team USA team (which Kyrie made)

The Cavs round out the week back home against the Raptors who are actually really good.  I feel like it’s tough to be less intimidating than being from Canada AND having this guy as your #1 fan:

drakedork

But the guys from up North can play.

If we finish the week 2-2 to stay above .500 I’ll be relatively happy.

We’ll usually post these every Monday. Just a quick review and preview of the Cavs previous week and upcoming week.

Browns cut Ben Tate, frees Crow to fly West

From ESPN Cleveland:

BEREA, Ohio — The Cleveland Browns on Tuesday waived RB Ben Tate. General Manager Ray Farmer made the announcement.

“With all the transactions we make while constructing our roster, it will always be our intent to do what is best for our football team,” said Farmer. “This move is no different and we wish Ben the best going forward.”

Tate started six of the eight games he appeared in this season. He rushed for 333 yards with four touchdowns and added nine receptions for 60 yards.”

I have no ill will towards Ben Tate. He was a serviceable running back, probably one of my least cussed-at Browns players this season. It was a good signing at the time. Not all good signings work out. That’s sports. I’m just extremely encouraged that the front office was willing to admit they were wrong, saw the talent they have in West and Crowell and pulled the trigger. Dishing out carries between two rookies that have shown what they have shown this year is SO much better than adding a what-you-see-is-what-you-get type back like Tate into the mix. Let these two kids grow and see what they can do with a heavier workload. Although we all know we probably don’t even need to line anyone up at running back (slash any other position) with 12 coming back this week. Giggity.

Swaggs looked magnificent per usual

Regular Season Game 10: Texans vs. Browns

JJ Watt split out wide on offense, caught a TD pass, and everyone at ESPN collectively had to change their underwear.

Joe Haden’s interception was a thing of beauty #NoFlyZone

Favorite pic of the game. A punter patting the best defensive player in the NFL on the head. So disrespectful and I love everything about it.

The Browns one shining moment all game. Nice downfield blocking by Austin

Turning point of the game right here.  If Crowell doesn’t fumble this, we go up 10-7 or 14-7. It doesn’t help that the broadcasters mushed the fuck out us

Sigh. The Shark might want to close his eyes during film study on this play

Couldn’t tell if that was Marshall Faulk or Alfred Blue wearing #28 for the Texans yesterday

“Trust me, you don’t want to be out there against Watt, Clowney, and Cushing.”

This is how I felt watching the game

Welcome to life as a Browns fan, kid. Get used to it.

Quick thoughts:

-That game sucked. Whatever. We’re 6-4 and now we’re right in the thick of things in the AFC North. We don’t control our own destiny anymore so our two games within the division mean even more now.

-I don’t understand our running back rotation at all. A week ago against the Bengals Terrance West had 26 carries. Yesterday he had 5. I’m fine with Crowell being the featured back, but I don’t understand the carries distribution.

-Hoyer played like shit. 30 incompletions was a franchise record for most incompletions in a game. He looked off the entire game. He easily could have had three interceptions. Last week it was “Sign Hoyer long term!” This week it’ll be “Play Johnny!” Can’t wait for talk radio this week. Ugh.

-Paul Kruger catches that INT, Cundiff makes that 38 yard field goal, and if Crowell doesn’t fumble that’s a totally different ballgame. We’re not a good enough team to miss opportunities like that.

-The rush defense continues to get gashed. Losses in the front seven will do that to you I guess.

-Is it that hard to stop a simple out route? Seriously. I think Mallett had half of his completions throwing simple out routes.

– I was at the game. Did this officiating crew look as bad on TV as they did in the stadium?

-I don’t think Johnny would have performed much better but Hoyer’s last 3 games leave a little to be desired. I’m not calling for Manziel by any means but that doesn’t mean I’m not curious.

I asked Twitter if the Browns would have won if Johnny was under center and these were the responses:

Yesterday was a reminder that we’re not as good as we thought but we’re not as bad as the media will make it seem this week either…. Hey, anything cool happen next game?
