Cavs v Bulls Tuesday Game Tape; Floyd v. Manny

Well that sucked. The Cavs came out flat from the jump and looked like a team that was without 40% of their starting lineup who hadn’t played in 7 days. Watching that first quarter you’d have thought the Cavs were about to lose this game by 20. Mike Dunleavy played the best quarter of his life and the Bulls were draining everything that left their hands.

A couple spurts here and there in the second half got the Cavs close but they could never get over that hump. Every time the Cavs went on a run the Bulls would withstand our effort and then go on their own run. The Bulls were Floyd Mayweather and the Cavs were Manny Pacquiao. When the Cavs started hitting and connecting with their shots, the Bulls ramped up their defense and went on runs of their own to close out the rounds. Every time the Cavs would get close and get the crowd back into it, the Bulls would tighten up and respond. We could just never get over that hump and never land that right hand hook. (Not to mention both Manny and the Cavs were screwed over by torn shoulders) This was just like a typical Floyd fight too. No knockout shots, just a close, gross match that was won by the team who played better defense.

Let’s look at the game tape:

(if first quarters didn’t count the Cavs would have won 77-72)

clechibox1

One of the few highlights from the fist quarter was Mozgov stuffing the shit out of Joakim Noah

Kyrie got in on the action as well with stripping Derrick Rose

Kyrie did Kyrie things

I heard Barkley or Kenny Smith say that all Kyrie did this game was make circus shots. Uh, these are the types of shots he makes EVERY game.

When Aaron Fucking Brooks is hitting shots like this it’s just not your night.

I don’t see Derrick Rose making many of these types of shots this series but damn he made them last night

The whole city of Chicago shit their pants when Derrick Rose got a stinger on his shoulder during this play. Kinda sucks when one of your star players hurts his shoulder, huh?

Couple quick thoughts:

– Hey guys let’s defend the Pick & Roll a lil better next game, k? Not really a fan of giving Pau Gasol WIIDDEE open 15 footers all game. If the Cavs can’t get that fixed we may be in for a long series. Either get a hand in his face or put him on his ass.

– Shumpert built off his game 4 performance in Boston and had a terrific game last night. He outscored LeBron and hit four 3s. We’ll need him to be a big contributor on Wednesday in JR’s place.

– Hey James Jones, make a shot, would ya?

– I don’t think Derrick Rose can play at that level every game but if he does…. yikes.

– We knew not having Kevin Love and JR Smith would hurt our three point shooting, but going 7 for 26 and shooting 26.9% is unacceptable in the playoffs.

– How in God’s name is this not an illegal screen on Joakim Noah? The Bulls didn’t score this possession but come on. It’s not a hard foul or malicious but it literally happened right in front of the referee’s eyes. “Get off your knees, ref. You’re blowing the game!” is what I hope some drunk guy in the front row shouted during this game.

– If the Cavs are going to win they’re going to need LeBron to take more than two free throws. Need to see more of LeBron The Aggressor not LeBron The Facilitator

– Gonna need Mozgov to step up BIG next game… defensively and offensively

– Don’t think I’ll need to see Mike Miller in the starting lineup again… Unless he’s hitting every 3 he takes

– In some weird sick and twisted way I think the Cavs losing game 1 is a good thing

  •  This team needed to face some adversity during a game and this game was full of it.
  • Game 1 was more of a “scouting report” game for the Cavs. It was all about how the Bulls would defend our offense without Love and JR and how they would attack our defense. Obviously the whole “Test Pau Gasol and let him shoot jumpers till the cows come home” strategy didn’t work.
  • It provided a chance for LeBron to see how the Bulls would defend him. Plus it allowed us for him to have a shit game, get it out of the way, and only be down 0-1.
  • There’s NOOO way the Bulls come out hitting shots like they were in the first quarter. Seriously. I’ve watched enough Bulls game this season to know that shot clock beating threes and long jumpers are not the norm for that team.
  • We took the Bulls best shot and still had a chance to win at the end of the game.

So here we are down 1-0 with Game 2 on Wednesday and I could not be less worried (you’ll find out soon that we’re big fans of unjustified confidence around here)

And with that said… Cavs in 5.

Cavs sweep Celtics Monday Game Tape; It was a damn street fight

The Cavs completed the sweep of the overmatched Celtics like everyone said they would but it wasn’t without two huge losses. Kevin Love got his arm ripped off and JR Smith slipped and accidentally hit Jae Crowder in the face. Both probably won’t be available at the beginning of the series against the Bulls and that SUCKS. As for this game… meh. The Cavs did what they needed to do and got out of Boston with the W. We saw firsthand what happens when a team is as overmatched by talent and class like the Celtics were in this series.

We’ve got the Bulls next and it’s no time to feel sorry for ourselves.

There was a certain other team from Ohio recently who faced an immense amount of adversity in the playoffs:

Let’s look at the game tape

clebos4

In a totally not dirty or intentional play, noted mouth breather Kelly Olynyk dislocated Kevin Love’s shoulder while they battled for a rebound

No really though. There wasn’t any intent at all as you can clearly see from this picture. Totally clean. Just your normal everyday basketball play that happens every trip down the court.

Kyrie gave poor Tyler Zeller the okey doke and made him look like a damn fool

Perk set a screen for LeBron and somehow got whistled for the foul. Seemed clean to me.

LeBron went choo choo and barreled his way down the lane for 2 before the half. When ‘Bron is in “Fuck You” mode there’s no stopping him. We’ll need that vs. the Bulls.

JR Smith was getting shoved by Jae Crowder and he put his arm out and accidentally hit Crowder in the face.

Tristan went after a loose ball and laid the wood on some Celtics fans and their seats in the process

In the end the Cavs won 101-93.

Couple thoughts:

– Hey Kelly Olynyk,

FUCK YOU DUDE

All these national writers and analysts on TV saying it wasn’t “intentional” and wasn’t “dirty” can kiss my ass. Now was Kelly’s intent to dislocate Love’s shoulder and jeopardize the rest of his playoffs? Probably not. But the “intent” was clearly there. He wanted to make his presence known. He knew what he was doing. We’ve all been in that moment while we’re playing hoops. Sometimes it’s a shove before you box out, sometimes it’s a hard foul disguised as you trying to block a shot. This was worse. This was equivalent to being at the bottom of a pile during a football game and grabbing another player’s nuts and twisting. The Celtics knew they couldn’t go talent on talent vs. the Cavs so they had to resort to this bullshit and it could end up costing the Cavs dearly in the long run. It’s like getting hurt in the 4th NFL preseason game, just completely unnecessary.

We speak in hyperbole on here A LOT but I don’t think I’m that crazy when I say Kelly Olynyk may go down in Cleveland sports lore as being as big of a villain as John Elway or Art Modell. What he did was unforgivable. Depending on how this season shakes out we may be looking at another head to add to the “Cleveland hates you Mount Rushmore.” And that sucks. Because a hippy looking bench player for an under .500 team doesn’t deserve to be there.

– If JR Smith gets suspended for a substantial amount of time the NBA has gone completely soft. There’s no one to blame but Adam Silver for this. The refs were officiating this way the entire series and something like this was bound to happen. If you “let ’em play” this is what you get. And let’s not try to anoint Jae Crowder as some sympathy figure either. The dude got what was coming to him (the punch, not the sprained knee, never like to see guys get injured)… maybe next time JR shouldn’t use a closed fist but whatevs

– So many people across the Internet saying the Cavs have no chance vs. the Bulls is HILARIOUS. We have the two best players in the series. Noah and Mirotic both have bum knees and Derrick Rose is a complete wildcard every night…  This Bulls-Bucks series could easily be 2-2 right now.

– The Cavs may have just become the Bad Boys of the NBA right under our nose. Perk, JR, Moz, etc. are all ready to throw down at the drop of a hat. Even Kyrie was sticking his nose in there. Let’s just not get suspended, K? We’ll need everyone for the Bulls. NWO 4 LIFE

– Man you’ve gotta feel for Kevin Love. Never been to the playoffs in his career; comes to the Cavs and is unfairly scrutinized the entire season; makes the playoffs for the first time; KILLS IT in his first 3 postseason games and looks like he’s finally starting to find his groove; gets his shoulder dislocated on a dirty play at the beginning of his 4th career playoff game. Damn, man. Damn.

– This is why you have Perk on your team. Guys want to act tough? Send him in. We need to work on on how blatant he is though. I’m already foaming at the mouth thinking about Perk setting on a hard screen on Joakim Noah.

– How ’bout your boy Shump? What’d he have, about 100 combined rebounds and steals? It’ll be interesting to see if he guards Derrick Rose or Jimmy Butler next series. Shump on Rose, LeBron on Jimmy Butler is how I’d play it but I think either one sounds good to me.

– After watching these first 4 games of the Bucks-Bulls series, it’s clear that D-Rose is a liability on defense for the Bulls. He’s getting beat like he stole something on the Bucks’ pick and rolls. We’re gonna need Kyrie and LeBron to expose this with a lot of pick and rolls/pops sprinkled in there.

– How about that no-call at the end of the game when LeBron was inbounding the ball and Isaiah Thomas bumped him while he was passing the ball? Looked totally legal.

– Speaking of Isaiah Thomas, these were his postgame comments:

isaiahthomasquote

Seems like it was a direct shot at Love, no? Enjoy your offseason, lil guy!

– Perk’s foul on Jae Crowder wasn’t a message to the Celtics. It was a message to the rest of the East- “You fuck with one of ours, you’ll get your ass laid out. Expect it.”

– Even with the impending loss of JR and Love for the foreseeable future I still don’t think the Bulls can hang with us. Gonna need Shump, Marion, Miller and TT to step up big.

Cavs in 4.

Cavs-Celtics Game 3 Friday Game Tape

If you come at the king, you best not miss. Evan Turner and Jae Crowder must be unfamiliar with that line from The Wire because they both came at LeBron all game and they each were embarrassed. The Celtics are a scrappy bunch but in the end the Cavs talent was too much and the we took a 3-0 series lead.

Bron, Love, JR all played great, Kyrie was meh, and Tristan was a man possessed on the offensive glass.

Let’s look at some game tape

game3bos

Mozgov got cheap shotted right in the neck

Shump was on that, on that

Jae Crowder tried to be a tough guy and had a hard foul on Kyrie… and somehow JR Smith got called for a technical? What? Was it just me or were these refs pretty bad? I’ve said this every game so far… and clearly I’m a Cavs homer but holy shit, blow your damn whistle one time.

Shump and Andy may have accidentally kissed and the fact that this got caught on TV is hilarious

Someone tell Jae Crowder is jockstrap his still on the TD Waterhouse floor

Kyrie dribbling is literally unfair. Pray for that guy’s ankles.

LeBron threw down a fast break windmill dunk. Have you ever seen someone look more bored while throwing down a windmill?

Someone get this guy’s name so I can send him a Bottlegate shirt

Evan Turner tried to dunk on LeBron and that went about as well as you’d think it would go

Kevin Love had a GREAT game, hit a dagger, and strutted around Boston and let his nuts hang. Do it to ’em, Kev!

And Boston fans proved everything we already knew about Boston fans

Couple quick thoughts:

-Brad Stevens with one of the more questionable decisions this series with his “Hack-a-Tristan” strategy in the first quarter. Sure he’s not Mark Price at the line, but the dude shot 64% from the line this season. Whatever. Thanks for the free points?

– If I hear how Boston plays with heart or toughness one more time I’m going to puke. OK, we get it. They don’t have talented basketball players so that have to play dirty tough.

-LeBron had that look in his eye and was in “attack mode” from the opening tip. Playoffs LeBron is the best LeBron.

– How about Kevin Love showing up big last night? Gonna need that next series vs. the Bulls.

– One time, just one time I want the Big 3 to all play phenomenal. In game 1 we had great Kyrie/decent LeBron/and great Kevin Love. Game 2 it was great LeBron/great Kyrie/OK Kevin Love. Yesterday was great LeBron/great Kevin Love/subpar Kyrie. If those 3 start collectively having great games vs. Chicago, that series will be over in 4-5 games.

-JR Smith and LeBron arrived an hour early to shootaround yesterday and it showed. JR got out of his slump and dropped 15 and LeBron was LeBron.

-Tristan Thompson finished the game with 5 offensive rebounds but it really felt like 20. I don’t know what the Cavs are going to do with his contract but right now he’s invaluable to this team.

-The Celtics are a bunch of fake tough guys.

-If the Cavs sweep the Celtics and the Bulls sweep the Bucks, the earliest game of the Cavs-Bulls series would be played NEXT SATURDAY. What the hell are we as fans going to do with all that time off?

– Loved our defense on Isaiah Thomas.

– Pretty sure the Cavs are about 60-0 when they wear their navy blue unis.

-Hit the music!

See you guys on Sunday for game 4. Let’s get the brooms ready.
