Browns v Bills Monday Game Tape

Sigh.

Let’s look at the game tape.

Before the game things got so so weird at some Browns fans’ tailgate

And there were Bills fans dressed up as large mammals

Cool scene here as Jim Kelly greeted the Bills on the field wearing a Darryl Talley jersey

(Kevin Hoffman-USA TODAY Sports)

The first half was gross. Nothing worthwhile happened in the first half aside from a Billy Cundiff field and a Billy Cundiff missed field goal. The only thing I pray is that a game down the road doesn’t rest on Billy’s right leg. I have more confidence in Phil Taylor kicking field goals right now and Phil Taylor is in a wheelchair.

The third quarter…. oh, the third quarter. This is where things started getting bad.

It started off well when Haden put another interception notch on his belt. But then a couple bad plays and a Hoyer sack gave the ball right back to the Bills and we weren’t able to capitalize on it…

Right after the Bills scored their first TD, things went from 0-100 real quick and Terrance West fumbled; Jerry Hughes picked it up; and the Bills sealed the game. Turning point right here.

Hoyer’s day ended after he threw his second interception of the day. Insert some guy named Johnny.

Johnny hit Josh Gordon over the middle for a nice gain

A couple plays later he did this

If you wanna win, let Johnny spin

https://twitter.com/Coll_Crowley/status/539160136690847745

Which left all of the households in Cleveland with a pretty hefty cleaning bill

Sidenote: I ripped my pants after he scored. Literally. My pants got ripped after Johnny Manziel scored his first NFL touchdown.

And then Will Burge constructed the tweet of the year calling out the hypocrisy of all the JFF detractors

https://twitter.com/WillBurge/status/539159787548966913

My old college roommate and Bottlegate contributor locked eyes with Johnny as he celebrated (that’s him to the left of Johnny’s helmet) #BottlegateWorldwide?

On Johnny’s second drive, he got an early snap, tried to pick the ball up and throw it and was promptly decapitated and killed.

And the internet did internet things and Johnny was immortalized into a meme

Meet Bottlegate’s new #1 enemy

The game ended and Kyle Orton decided to throw in a dip on the sidelines. This vine we posted went viral and broke the internet, NBD

Couple quick thoughts:

What was up with Joe Thomas? 3 holding calls? Could have been called for a lot more too.

How late is too late when it comes to signing a new kicker? I don’t trust Billy Cundiff over 35 yards.

Hoyer and Gordon weren’t on the same page all game. I don’t know whose fault that is but apparently the coaches thought it was Brian’s.

I like Brian Hoyer, I really do… But 9 interceptions and 4 touchdowns since the Steelers win isn’t going to cut it. If Hoyer didn’t have the whole “hometown kid” thing going on, I think there’d be a unanimous clamoring for Manziel.

Speaking of Manziel, that was fun, wasn’t it? There’s just a certain excitement when he takes a snap. I wasn’t crazy about him being inserted vs. that defensive front but he looked pretty comfortable directing the offense (sidenote: Merrill Hoge is a jackass). If the Browns hand the reigns to Johnny, I think I’m comfortable with it. We need to get something out of the QB.

I thought the defense played their asses off. Buffalo’s longest run from scrimmage was 8 yards. You’d think that’d be enough to win a game.

Jim Leonhard impressed me. He played solid just as he was expected to do. He’s a “pro’s pro”

How about Joe Haden? Interceptions in 3 straight games; a blocked field goal in this one; and he held Sammy Watkins to 14 yards receiving. Joe is playing at a Pro Bowl level.

Speaking of Pro Bowl, does anyone really stand out as a lock to make the Pro Bowl besides Joe Thomas? If he wasn’t injured I’d say Tashaun Gipson. Joel Bitonio? Haden?

Gotta be encouraged by the youth of our playermakers on offense- Manziel, Crowell, West, Gordon, Gabriel. The future seems bright.

I wish Marqueis Gray was still on the Browns.

At least most of the other AFC North teams lost?

Random thought but I question the decision to run a screen with Jim Dray. I know we gained positive yardage but why not try that with one of our backs or Andrew Hawkins?

I miss you, Jordan.

PS- if you needed to feel worse about the loss, this is the quarterback that beat us.

Browns v Falcons Monday Game Tape

*Exhale*

Thank you Mike Smith.

Just as everyone predicted before the season, your Cleveland Browns are 7-4, folks. In a game filled with 3 interceptions from Brian Hoyer, numerous dropped interceptions from our defense, our Pro Bowl safety getting his knee injured, the return of Flash (fuck he looked good, huh?) and some AWFUL AWFUL clock management from both sides, the Brownies outlasted Atlanta and Billy Cundiff kicked a game winning field goal as time expired to win 26-24. Let’s look at the damn game tape.

Joe Haden got loose in warmups and OH MY GOD DID YOU SEE THAT CATCH?!?

Oh yeah, Julio Jones is pretty good

The crow flew home to Georgia and had 2 TDs

Regular Season Game 11: Browns vs. Falcons

Joe Haden got another pick #ProBowlJoe

Browns gave up a score before halftime. Weird.

I’m not even going to address Cundiff’s field goal try before half. But thank God for Joel Bitonio.

Josh Gordon’s return was everything I hoped it would be and more

Yeah, I think our running game will be just fine without Tate

Steven Jackson somehow trotted him and his 4.9 speed into the end zone

This was gross. He was trying to throw it out of the end zone? Right? RIGHT?!

Johnny’s girlfriend was not impressed (can’t say I disagree with her) Also, Having your girlfriend call you “bae” in public has to be the most embarrassing thing in the world, right?

Gross x 2

Matt Bryant hit a 53 yarder in what should have been the dagger. But Mike Smith doesn’t know how timeouts and game clocks work

A couple passes here and there and the Browns quickly get it down to the Falcons 19 yard line, and Billy Cundiff did this:

Think this game meant a little bit to Josh Gordon?

Couple quick thoughts:

– I continue to love the addition of Andrew Hawkins. The guy makes plays game after game.

– Our QB play has continued to be shaky the past couple weeks. Hoyer definitely had “tunnel vision” this game. He targeted Gordon 17 times, most in the NFL for one game. “Pitch count” my ass.

– It’s nice to finally be on the other side of “winning games you shouldn’t have won”

– When Jordan Cameron returns, this offense has the potential to be downright scary (if the QB play gets better)

-Craig Robertson did a nice job of filling in for Karlos Dansby

– Mingo continues to be a non factor. I’m a Mingo apologist but there’s no hiding his lack of productivity this season.

– Hey, at least we didn’t misplay a punt this week

-If Bitonio doesn’t tackle Hester before the half, there’s a good chance the Browns don’t win that game

– Justin Gilbert made a couple of HUGE plays. Nice to see something out of the rook

– After not seeing him for 10 games, you kind of forgot how good Josh Gordon really was. No one that big and strong should be that quick and smooth

– Crowell is gonna get all the credit this week but T. West had some great, crucial runs today

– Anthony Lima made a great point about Hoyer and Manziel

-The loss of Gipson is going to hurt. Praying it’s not an ACL…

– Buffalo is going to be another tough game next week but I think we should beat them pretty handily

Game Balls– Josh Gordon, Andrew Hawkins, Isaiah Crowell, Joel Bitonio, Paul Kruger, Joe Haden, Craig Robertson, Billy Cundiff

Swaggs looked magnificent per usual

Regular Season Game 10: Texans vs. Browns

JJ Watt split out wide on offense, caught a TD pass, and everyone at ESPN collectively had to change their underwear.

Joe Haden’s interception was a thing of beauty #NoFlyZone

Favorite pic of the game. A punter patting the best defensive player in the NFL on the head. So disrespectful and I love everything about it.

The Browns one shining moment all game. Nice downfield blocking by Austin

Turning point of the game right here.  If Crowell doesn’t fumble this, we go up 10-7 or 14-7. It doesn’t help that the broadcasters mushed the fuck out us

Sigh. The Shark might want to close his eyes during film study on this play

Couldn’t tell if that was Marshall Faulk or Alfred Blue wearing #28 for the Texans yesterday

“Trust me, you don’t want to be out there against Watt, Clowney, and Cushing.”

This is how I felt watching the game

Welcome to life as a Browns fan, kid. Get used to it.

Quick thoughts:

-That game sucked. Whatever. We’re 6-4 and now we’re right in the thick of things in the AFC North. We don’t control our own destiny anymore so our two games within the division mean even more now.

-I don’t understand our running back rotation at all. A week ago against the Bengals Terrance West had 26 carries. Yesterday he had 5. I’m fine with Crowell being the featured back, but I don’t understand the carries distribution.

-Hoyer played like shit. 30 incompletions was a franchise record for most incompletions in a game. He looked off the entire game. He easily could have had three interceptions. Last week it was “Sign Hoyer long term!” This week it’ll be “Play Johnny!” Can’t wait for talk radio this week. Ugh.

-Paul Kruger catches that INT, Cundiff makes that 38 yard field goal, and if Crowell doesn’t fumble that’s a totally different ballgame. We’re not a good enough team to miss opportunities like that.

-The rush defense continues to get gashed. Losses in the front seven will do that to you I guess.

-Is it that hard to stop a simple out route? Seriously. I think Mallett had half of his completions throwing simple out routes.

– I was at the game. Did this officiating crew look as bad on TV as they did in the stadium?

-I don’t think Johnny would have performed much better but Hoyer’s last 3 games leave a little to be desired. I’m not calling for Manziel by any means but that doesn’t mean I’m not curious.

I asked Twitter if the Browns would have won if Johnny was under center and these were the responses:

Yesterday was a reminder that we’re not as good as we thought but we’re not as bad as the media will make it seem this week either…. Hey, anything cool happen next game?
