Dwayne Bowe Being Named A Team Captain For Yesterday’s Game Is Really Really Dumb

First off, I know the Browns do this for players on the roster that have ties to the opposing team. Ex: Paul Kruger was a captain for the Ravens game because he used to play for the team and Danny Shelton went to the University of Washington so he was a captain against the Seahawks. Pettine does this every week. I think it’s pretty dumb but whatever. I know he has to be consistent but… come on.

Yesterday before the game guess who was out there at midfield calling the coin toss? Yup, Mr. $9 million guaranteed aka Mr Dwayne Bowe aka Mr. 5 catches aka Mr. Healthy Scratch.

So the guy who’s been inactive for 8 out of 15 games this season was representing the team before the game. This guy, the ultimate teammate:

The fact that Dwayne Bowe was a captain Sunday is a joke. The fact that he got got a pass thrown to him is a joke. The fact that he was active is a joke. The fact that he’s still on the team is a joke.

I could be way off base here but if you’re a player on the Browns and you find out that Bowe is a captain, wouldn’t you be pissed? That a guy who sat out training camp, doesn’t play, is out of shape, made $9 million, and who has 5 catches on the year is representing you and your team before a game? That’s kind of a slap in the face, no? And how about if you’re a player on Kansas City? How do you not laugh when you see him as an opposing captain before the game?

This whole shenanigan is like a real life version of this scene in Remember The Titans. The decisions this team continues to make is flat out bonkers.

One of the dumber things the Browns have done this season and that’s saying a lot.

Good thing Mr. Healthy Scratch backed up his tweet

VIDEO: Mike Polk Jr. Sees If Chickens Are Better At Drafting Players Than Ray Farmer

OK, chickens! I see you!

Brandin Cooks & Kelvin Benjamin

Anthony Barr & ??

Khalil Mack & Marqise Lee

Sign me up for either of those options.

I always wonder how the Browns would be different if us regular Joes were in charge of making the team’s picks. Everyone on the Internet always thinks they could do a better job of evaluating talent. Truth is, they don’t know the first thing about evaluating players but it makes for a fun discussion. Watching 40 times at the combine and studying every mock draft that comes out between now and the 3rd week in April are staples of being a Browns fan.

If a pea brained chicken can assemble a decent squad, why is it so hard for the people whose job it is to actually know NFL talent?

If the chickens can draft well, why can’t the Farmer?

Browns-Seahawks Monday Game Tape; Browns Lose To Team They Should Lose To

Here it goes:

Browns stink and were never going to win in Seattle unless they played perfect football which they didn’t so they lost by 17 and no one was surprised because the Seahawks have been to the past 2 Super Bowls and the Browns are the Browns and had a QB making his 7th career start who wasn’t great but wasn’t awful but his receivers had 5 drops and the highest paid defense in the NFL gave up 30 points and 3 touchdown passes to Russell Wilson after our coach said Wilson wasn’t elite earlier in the week which was probably a dumb thing to say

*exhale*

Here’s the game tape

Seattle fans are so funny

The first drive was fun. It ended in a touchdown but the biggest play was Marlon Moore basically ending Earl Thomas’s life

And then Johnny found Gary for 6

Cam Erving did some Cam Erving things. So frustrating.

Richard Sherman threw Travis Benjamin out of bounds and the ballboy had the slowest fall ever

And before the half ended the Seahawks were allowed 1 final untimed down because of a Browns facemask. Instead of going into the half down 17-10 (respectable), the Browns were down 20-10 after Seattle kicked a FG

Johnny scrambled for a nice first down. Coach Flip really really wanted him to get down so they wouldn’t have to play Austin Davis

Hatin ass ref got in the way

Nice to see our players fighting each other

Couple quick thoughts:

  • That Terrelle Pryor Wildcat play was the most underwhelming thing ever
  • I cannot overstate how terrible that penalty was before the half that led to a Seahawks FG. There’s a huge difference between being down 1 TD at half with some confidence and going into the locker room down 10 after a terrible penalty to end the half.
  • Johnny wasn’t great and he wasn’t terrible. Pretty pedestrian. I’ve seen QBs play wayyy worse games in that stadium. I think there’s something there but we’ll never be able to fully evaluate him with the group of receivers he has to throw to.
  • I know it’s beating a dead horse but I’d love a few big receivers who could catch.
  • The Dwayne Bowe sighting in the second half was pretty neat. Bet that’s what he needed to springboard into the starting lineup vs. KC and Pitt.
  • Those announcers kinda sucked, right?
  • There was never a point in the game where I thought “Hey, maybe the Browns can pull this off” which led to a lack of letdown. It was nice not being let down.
  • Seattle fans are such dorks.
  • Johnny needs to work on his postgame attire, I think we can all agree on that.
