Browns- Jets Monday Game Tape; Nowhere To Go But Up! Maybe. Hopefully.

Nowhere to go but up, baby!

Not many teams are able to overcome their starting quarterback getting a concussion on the first drive, 5 turnovers, and 12 penalties… add in the fact it’s a season opener and it says “Cleveland” on the front of their jerseys and yesterday’s loss was basically inevitable.

If we’re being honest, I can’t remember being more let down after a season opener in some time. Whatever could go wrong, did, and the Browns were never able to get out of their own way. Sigh. Ugly ugly loss.

Let’s look at the damn game tape.

Browns fans invaded the MetLife parking lots and things got pretty wild

Thought there was no chance the Browns were going to lose when Dwyane Wade showed up to the game in a Jets jersey

You knew we were in for a wild ride when Karlos Dansby somehow got lined up at cornerback (I don’t believe the Browns were in man coverage here but I could be wrong)

After moving the ball about 90 yards down the field on a pretty spectacular opening drive, Josh McCown thought he was John Elway and attempted the diving helicopter spin. Unfortunately for Josh, he is no Elway. He’s McCown. Oh, and he’d be knocked out of the game with a concussion after this hit.

Pretty nice hangtime though

Enter Mr. Jonathan Paul Manziel

And Johnny looked good his first couple of drives. He broke Antonio Cromartie’s ankles and completely emasculated him

Threw a bomb to Travis Benjamin for 6. His first passing TD ever

On 3rd and 19 no less

Things were looking up, Tashaun Gipson picked off Mr. Harvard…. but then got stripped by Brandon Marshall. Turning point in the game right here.

Now I know how Miami Hurricanes fans felt in that ’02 championship.

Andy Lee boomed a punt and Craig Robertson gave us a top 10 celebration dance after he made a nice tackle

When Hartline made this catch I thought it would be our day. Nah…

Don’t think I’m exaggerating when I say this is one the better catches you’ll see.

Johnny missed an open Andrew Hawkins in the end zone for a touchdown. If Hawk was taller than 4’2 it’s a catch but Johnny needs to complete that pass. Another play that could have changed the game that the Browns didn’t make. Can’t afford to leave touchdowns on the field.

Tramon Williams did his best Brock Lesnar impression. Suplex city, bitch.

Karlos Dansby made a nice stop at the goal line that didn’t really mean much. Nice hit though.

Brandon Marshall abused Joe Haden in the second half

Andrew Hawkins might be dead

Johnny Manziel fumbled approximately 15 times. Thought he had big hands?

And then the clock hit zero and the Browns lost 31-10.

0-1 to start the season, where have we heard that before??? 11 straight opening day losses. I’m not even mad, that’s incredible.

Couple quick thoughts

  • Saw this on Twitter- The Browns had 230 days to prepare for this game… and we got… that
  • Our supposed strength (offensive line) was pretty subpar yesterday. Pass protection was OK… but the run game struggled when the offensive line was unable to open holes. Jets do have a very good defense but come on.
  • You’ll never win a game in the NFL if your top 2 rushers are both of your quarterbacks.
  • brownsjetsrushing
  • A pass rush would be pretty cool. No sacks + no pressure = an average quarterback like Ryan Fitzpatrick being able to convert important 3rd downs and throwing 2 touchdown passes. Opposing quarterbacks are salivating to play this pass rush.
  •  Hey Josh, you’re 36. Can’t be taking those hits, bro. We love your passion and the fact you try and gain every last inch, but let’s tone down the intensity a little bit. You’re not Marshawn Lynch.
  • Thought Johnny looked… ok? He didn’t take one snap with the 1st team offense the whole week leading up to practice, and it showed. He seemed much more comfortable in the pocket than last year and actually looked like he belonged in the NFL. I think the fumbles were a result of him trying to do too much and trying to come back from a big deficit. If this team finds itself in a 10-14 point hole and has to play from behind, this could be a long season.
  • Good luck throwing to those Grade A playmakers whoever gets the start under center.
  • Tramon Williams looked pretty good.
  • Andy Lee has a fucking BAZOOKA for a leg.
  • Why does Joe Haden seem to always struggle at the beginning of the season? I thought he’d shut down Marshall because he usually has trouble with the quick, shifty, smaller receivers (Antonio Brown). I’m not entirely concerned with our Pro Bowl cornerback but he had a pretty rough week one.
  • How stupid will the folks in Berea look if Marcus Mariota (who they were interested in drafting) comes into First Energy Stadium and lights up this Browns defense? Don’t even want to think about that.
  • Run defense looks improved. JK. It still stinks.

Nowhere to go but up!

15-1

Ohio State-Virginia Tech Tuesday Game Tape; The Buckeyes Are Still Really Good At Football

ANNNNNDDD we’re back! After 9 months off the Buckeyes hit the ground running and reminded everyone in the country just how disgusting their offense can be when it’s hitting on all cylinders… And it wasn’t hitting on all cylinders. 0 points in the second quarter yet still ending up with 42. Oh, and did I mention we were missing 3 wide receivers and arguably the best defensive player in the country. Just another day at the office.

First football Game Tape of the 2015 season and… here… we… go…

Virginia Tech with the hilarious (jk not hilarious at all) signage before the game

This one was pretty funny though even though the whole “Drake album art” thing is getting a littttttllleee played out

Ronda Rousey chimed in on who she thought should be under center for Ohio State

I’ll give credit where credit is due; Virginia Tech coming out to Enter Sandman is one the cooler sights in college football

https://twitter.com/SBNationCFB/status/641043788597731328

The biggest question in college football was answered when Cardale trotted out on the field to take the first snap of the season. Everything leading up to this game seemed to lean towards JT getting the nod but Urbs chose to go with 12 Gauge.

Cardale got things started with a nice little toss off his back foot to Curtis Samuel for 6.

Virginia Tech’s running back wore a gold watch which is apparently legal… When ball is life but you need to keep track of the time

Zeke’s first carry of the 2015 season was pretty good and went for 80 yards and a touchdown.

I think Braxton is going to be just fine during this position change

The “Oh shit we have to open against the #1 team in the nation” face. Or the “I just pooped my pants on national TV and it smells” face.

Embedded image permalink

Things got a little hairy in the 2nd quarter when Peyton Hillis Jr. ran a wheel route and juked Eli Apple out of his cleats for a touchdown

Cardale made a questionable decision and got picked off which led to a Virginia Tech field goal

The second quarter turned out to be pretty gross for the most part. Bucks didn’t score a point and Virginia Tech turned a 14 point deficit into a 3 point lead going into halftime.

With Jalin Marshall out, Zeke was back returning punts… and, well, he botched one which gave Va. Tech the ball

Virginia Tech would punch it in on a third down throwback pass (hate this type of play BTW) and the Bucks would go into halftime down 17-14.

And then Buckeye Twitter lost their minds at halftime. A couple people clamored for Luke Fickell to be fired, some people even wanted Urban Meyer to get fired. You know, the same Urban Meyer who JUST won a National Championship. Never change, Buckeye fans.

https://twitter.com/ejbarone20/status/641068076646178816

Then the second half happened.

3rd play from scrimmage after haltime and Cardale flicks his wrist to (FORMER QUARTERBACK) Braxton Miller. Braxton stays on his feet and scores 6. Like I said before, I think this position change is gonna work out pretty well

Worst foreshadowing ever. Brewer got ROCKED and this hit knocked him out of the game for good with a broken collarbone.

Braxton Fucking Miller.

For some reason there was a guy holding a banana

I’ll be honest, I DID NOT think Braxton’s first game at receiver was going to go this well. I think it’s safe to say he surpassed all of our expectations. Here’s some more sexiness in GIF form:

Cardale walked in for 6 and the rout was on.

And for good measure, the Big Ten record holder for TDs in a season (and our backup QB) came in to throw a  passe in some mop up time… Which led to Mike Thomas giving a dirrrrty stop and go that broke Va. Tech’s best corner’s ankles. Man…

Good win. Good start to the season. Goodnight Virginia Tech.

Cavs v Warriors Friday Game Tape; Cavs in 5

Well that was a kick in the nuts, huh? After taking the “greatest basketball team in the history of the NBA” to overtime, the Cavs succumbed to fatigue, an injury bug, and poor overtime shooting while falling to the Warriors 108-100.

I’m not going to sugarcoat it… that loss compounded with Kyrie’s knee injury hurts, but that shouldn’t discourage you. The Cavs should have won that game in regulation. A couple free throws that don’t get missed; a JR Smith shot falls; Mozgov doesn’t get called for that ridiculous travel; our defense doesn’t allow Andre Iguodala to get two quarter ending dunks; LeBron doesn’t settle for a fallaway three pointer with time expiring… all opportunites squandered. This Warriors team is very very beatable but we can’t screw the pooch every time we’re able to take advantage of an opportunity.

I can only speak on experience but this is the same exact feeling we had after game 1 of the Chicago series. We all started to second guess our team without Kevin Love and we’re doing the same thing now with the uncertainty of Kyrie’s injury. If I’ve learned one thing from watching this team all season it’s to never count them out. ALL season they’ve went through adversity and look where we are right now.

Anytime you have the best player in the world on your team, you’re always in a series. It’s clear the Warriors will live with LeBron getting his points so that makes it that much more crucial that the JR Smiths and Iman Shumperts step up on the big stage.

In the 2 titles LeBron has won, he’s lost game 1 of the Finals each time. Obviously it’s not the same situation but that stat alone eases my pain just a little bit. In my stupid brain I’ve convinced myself that losing game 1 was a good thing because now the feeling after winning game 2 will be that much sweeter.

I don’t think my heart is strong enough for more games like this but damn that was fun.

Let’s look at the Game Tape:

clegswbox1 clegswstats1

Guy Fieri took some time off of eating barbecue and filmed Steph Curry warming up

Get healthy Kyrie

Get used to it, guys. These types of shots will fall this series

We’re gonna need a lot of this if Kyrie is out. Damn you Rihanna.

Terrible terrible way to end the 3rd quarter.

A no shoe 3 pointer really hurts your psyche

LOVE how Mozgov played in this game. He had a couple strong dunks and those 2 free throws with 30 seconds left were as clutch as you can get

Kyrie with a helluva block on the MVP

But then this is the shot that we settled for

Shump almost put it in though

Shumpert near miss

If I don’t post any Vines from overtime that means it never happened.

See you on Sunday.

Cavs in 5.
