Browns-Broncos Monday Game Tape; F*CK! WE ALWAYS LOSE!!

You knew it was coming. As Browns fans we’re conditioned to expect the worst and hope for the best. You knew they wouldn’t capitalize after Mingo’s interception in overtime. You knew deep down that somehow, some way they’d fuck it up. And they did. Bad.

This one hurt, not gonna lie. The Browns had opportunity after opportunity for someone to step up and win the game… but no one did. It’s just so disappointing knowing how close the Browns were to winning their second game in a row. One more loss this season decided in heartbreaking fashion. Instead of 3-3 we’re 2-4 and falling further and further behind in the division.

Let’s look at the game tape

cledenbox cledenstats

Dwayne Bowe was inactive. At this point it’s more likely Swagger gets in the game before D-Bowe.

Karlos Dansby picked off Peyton Manning (don’t worry though, the Browns obviously didn’t capitalize)

The Broncos know Peyton can’t throw a spiral longer than 7 yards so they had to resort to cheating and run pick plays

And Denver scored the first touchdown of the day on a pick six by Aqib Talib. Not a very good decision by 13 Gauge

But then on the first drive of the second half McCown turned to ol’ faithful Gary for 6

And the fine folks at DirecTV took notice. Wait… Hoyer? #NailedIt

For awhile the only thing the broadcast talked about were the pigeons on the field

Barnidge scored another touchdown to make it 16-14. You cannot stop Gary Barnidge, you can only hope to contain him.

This kid appeared on the TV screen and I immediately felt the urge to beat up a 9 year old. I bet his parents aren’t even Browns fans. Little troll.

Peyton Manning jacked up our strong safety. Yes, a 39 year old QB put the hardest hitter on our team on his ass.

Then the next play Karlos Dansby got his second interception of the day. This time he returned it for a touchdown and the Browns took the lead!!

Which they held on to for exactly 14 seconds.

A couple things happened here and there that left the Browns and Broncos tied at 23 with a little over a minute to go… Browns ball. Driving to score and sneak out a win. Things are looking good!

And then this happened. I don’t think I’m exaggerating when I say this is right up there with the Weeden flip pass as one of the worst plays a Browns QB has made in the past 10 years.

You’d expect that out of a rookie but not a 36 year old quarterback. Just take the sack, throw the ball into the dirt, or check the ball down to Isaiah Crowell who comes open at the end of this play and looks like he doesn’t have anyone within 10 yards of him.

Emmanuel Sanders almost kind of caught a pass down the sideline that was ruled incomplete and the game went to overtime.

Broncos win the toss and on their drive this happened. Mingo did something!!

Browns ball! Browns ball! Let’s capitalize, win this game, and get to 3-3!

Oh.

The Broncos eventually got the ball back, drove down the field through our Swiss cheese defense, and kicked a field goal to win.

Broncos 26 Browns 23.

Sorry bro, not today:

Couple quick thoughts

  • For so much talk in the preseason about how elite our offensive line was, they’ve really underwhelmed so far. Our pass blocking is poor and our run blocking is POOR. The Broncos were without 2 of their better pass rushers in DeMarcus Ware and Shane Ray and the Browns still gave up 4 sacks.
  • On the other side of the ball, the Browns pass rush registered a whopping 0 sacks on the super mobile Peyton Manning. I know it’s far too early to even think about the draft but one of our glaring weaknesses is a rush end/OLB. I’d love a Robert Nkemdiche or Joey Bosa on this squad. But we’ll probably get a backup guard to fortify the offensive line’s second unit.
  • In hindsight Pettine going for 2 wasn’t the best decision. If it would have worked it would have been genius. But it didn’t and now he’ll have to answer to his critics. (I liked it at the time)
  • McCown. McCown. McCown. What are you doing, man? That pick-six plus the INT at the end of the game was inexcusable. Denver has one of the best defenses in the league, at least make them work for it. We knew coming into the game that Josh wouldn’t put up the numbers that he did against Baltimore last week but he needed to play smart football.
  • I’d pay good money to get one of those biceps veins that Robert Turbin has.
  • Mingo!!! Biggest play of his Browns career. Would have been the hero if the Browns were able to capitalize.
  • Travis Benjamin continues to impress us all. 9 catches for 117 yards. It’s almost expected that Travis will be around 100 yards every game. His progression has been fun to watch.
  • The Browns could easily be 4-2. The haves and the have nots.

Browns v Ravens Monday Game Tape; We Are All Mc-Witnesses

Never a doubt.

Is it too early to anoint Josh McCown as the greatest Browns QB of all time? Because I think I’m just about at that point? Three straight games with 300+ yards and FOUR HUNDRED FIFTY SEVEN yards (Browns single game reg. season record) 2 TDs and a rushing TD yesterday is nothing short of incredible. With our defense not being able to stop the Dillon Panthers JV offense, it’s imperative that the offense scores points and Josh is doing just that. Hats off to him because I don’t think any of us saw this coming. Is he the next Rich Gannon? Probably not, but I’m going to enjoy how he’s played these last few games and not bitch like I usually do. Football is fun when you score points. Yesterday was fun.

How about our boy Big Play Barnidge? Every time the Browns needed someone to step up and make a catch on third down it seemed that the ball always found a way into Gary’s mitts. The ball found it’s way into BPB’s (Big Play Barnidge) hands 8 times to the tune of 139 yards and a nuts to butts touchdown.

So now the Browns sit at 2-3 with their last 3 games decided by an average of 4 points. Could easily be 4-1. Could easily be 1-4. Let’s look at the damn game tape.

Smokin Joe Flacco gave us the ol’ Oopty Oop

Gary Barnidge made the catch of the year. Who needs a good set of hands when you can catch touchdowns with your nuts and butt?

Crow caught the ball, shook some dudes, broke some tackles, and dove his way into the end zone and our hearts

The game went to overtime. The Browns forced the Ravens to punt, got the ball, shoved it down Baltimore’s throat, and set up Travis Coons for a game winning field goal

And Jimmy D’s call:

And we got to see Pettine’s Vinegar Strokes

Couple quick thoughts

  • Our run defense continues to be an issue. I don’t know if it’s scheme, personnel. playcalling, etc. Something needs changed STAT. Our OLBs don’t keep contain, our ILBs don’t fill gaps, our safeties don’t come up and take bad angles… It’s so frustrating knowing that so much time and effort has been put into stopping the run this season and they’re still TERRIBLE at it.
  • Someone tell Danny Shelton to turn it down jusssst a little bit. 2 personal fouls in the second half is not a good look (the 1st one was kind of BS though)
  • Armonty Bryant continues to be a bright spot on defense.
  • I think the Browns are finding an effective way to use Duke Johnson. If we can get 15 touches and 77 total yards out of him per game I’ll be very very happy.
  • Pass protection has been kind of spotty lately. Broncos have a couple of stud pass rushers in Von Miller & DeMarcus Ware (if they’re healthy). Let’s hope this gets shored up in time for next week’s game.
  • TRAVIS MOTHERFUCKING COONS
  • Pettine almost bungled this game  with his clock management late in the fourth quarter.
  • Why are we wasting a roster spot on Dwayne Bowe?
  • Still can’t believe I saw a Browns quarterback throw for over 450 yards.
  • Not elite.

I dunno, guys… the Browns always seem to win one game every year against a team that they’re not supposed to beat. Denver looks incredibly beatable and maybe, just maybe, the Browns aren’t as shitty as we all thought. Sunday should be (hopefully) interesting. See you in the Muni.

Browns-Raiders Monday Game Tape; At Least We’re Not Last In The Division

I wish there was something good to say about yesterday’s game, I really do. The Browns didn’t run, didn’t tackle, didn’t block, didn’t defend the run, didn’t defend the pass, didn’t coach well, passed the ball OK, and stunk on special teams. All of that combined equals a 27-20 loss to the Raiders… and it wasn’t really that close.

People (me) actually thought the Browns would start off the season with a 3-0 or 2-1 record because of the easy schedule. Ha!

Yesterday was the Raiders first road win since November of 2013; Their first win in Cleveland since 1985; And their first win in the Eastern time zone since 2009.

Bottom line is this team isn’t very good and isn’t very fun to watch. Not during one minute yesterday did I enjoy myself watching that game. Even after 3 hours in the Muni Lot I couldn’t force myself to get pumped for the game. No playmakers on either side of the ball will do that to you. Yesterday’s loss was expected.

But that’s kind of what happens when Josh McCown is your quarterback. And that’s not even a knock on Josh, I thought he actually played pretty well (in the second half) and threw some nice passes. He is what he is.  It’s just… we know what we’re going to get with Josh and that’s why that last interception was so expected. I’ll be honest, I wasn’t even mad/sad/or dejected after that. It was mostly just a “Alright whatever” kind of reaction. 3 games in and I’m already apathetic! Pretty good sign.

Let’s look at the game tape

Fantastic Special Teams play all day

Brian Hartline made a pretty nice catch with his legs

Would like to see Gary Barnidge get involved more because he truly may be our biggest offensive threat

And the crowd was going wild!!

And then Charles Woodson picked off McCown and the Browns lost.

But it wasn’t all bad, at least the game gave us this

Couple quick thoughts:

  • So about that whole thing where we’re able to run the ball and be able to defend against the run. LOL.
  • So about that whole thing where our secondary and offensive line are the strengths of the team. LOL.
  • I watched the first half of the game at Dive Bar. It was a great surprise to walk in and see the bar had doubled in size. Great spot to watch a game.
  • Duke Johnson had THREE yards rushing.
  • Hey Josh please stop underthrowing Travis Benjamin
  • A quick reminder: The Browns have the highest paid defense in the league

Pretty excited to travel to San Diego to watch this team.
