Kevin Love in ESPN The Magazine’s Body Issue is why the fire emoji was invented

From ESPN.com:

ON HIS SHOULDER INJURY:

I was really looking forward to the playoffs. This injury is one of the hardest things I’ve dealt with. It was really tough to go out the way that I did. I knew when it happened I probably wasn’t going to be able to return to play. But when I heard the news that I was going to have to get surgery, and be out for four to six months, it was a big, big blow to me.

Of course I was pissed. I was very emotional. And that was seen and heard, what I said [about Olynyk’s allegedly dirty play]. I wanted to make this deep run with these guys and be out there on the floor. That was very tough, from a human aspect

You don’t want to have any bad blood; the NBA is an elite fraternity. As time went on, I was upset, but I always knew that I was going to get to the point where I could talk to Kelly and say, “Hey, man. All good.” So we could move on. So I asked my agent to get me Kelly’s number. And that was it, just a text exchange: “Just want to let you know, no hard feelings. It’s all part of the game.” It was very genuine. He told me he appreciated it. I didn’t want him to worry about what anyone was saying these days. I expressed that I was initially very upset, which I thought was understandable. But I don’t think he is that type of player. We’re cool.

ON HIS WEIGHT STRUGGLES:

Oh, you couldn’t keep me out of the cupboards. Especially sixth through eighth grade, I was always very hungry. That’s when I was growing. And my mom was a great cook; I was very spoiled when I was young. Her fettuccine alfredo? Yeah, you eat that on a regular basis and you’re not gonna be in the Body Issue.

ON FITNESS:

I’m not going to go any lower than my weight now. I know that I have to play inside; I have to contend with people who are bigger, faster, stronger than me. But I’m trying to add things to my game. I’m trying to be able to run faster and have fresh legs every day. I’m fit, and I’m focused.”

I think there’s more Q&A in the article but I can’t say for sure because I watched the video then I passed out.

Sweet Baby Ray’s on a toasted onion roll, he’s a specimen. He looks kind of gangly at times when he’s sporting a sweaty undershirt and baggy number 0 on the court but this little spread here leaves no doubt: I would not kick him out of bed for eating crackers. Ritz family size, have at it Kev. I’ll pop open each sleeve myself.

And to Kevin….I’m so sorry.

Cody’s On A Vacation Far Away: Tribe Notes 7/1

What’s the Damage?

central7-1

wildcard7-1

Three games, three losses in Baltimore. Zero runs in 18 innings of baseball on Sunday. Seven L’s in their last ten games. Players questioning the team’s heart. I was ready to write the 2015 Cleveland Indians obituary this week.

https://twitter.com/NeastWS/status/615513546802233344

Then Tito calls a team meeting Monday before our four gamer at the Trop (which I imagine ended like this)

…and BAM we’re back baby. Rubbing heads, making plays and having fun.

Cody Anderson continued his Major League domination, staying perfect through six and a third in game one. Danny Salazar’s no-no through five and two thirds last night? Yes-yes! And our young boys….mmm. They did some things.

(numbers 8 and 3)

G’s three run tank

Never mind the fact that we’re 10 games out in the division and five and a half out of the Wild Card. The past two nights have been FUN. Kip and Smooth must have taken the pep talk from Tito to heart: 8 for 19 with two doubles, a bomb, 3 ribbis and a swipe so far since Tito threw down the gauntlet. Yan Gomes is 3-9 with a double and a Yahtzee ball. Can you imagine if we were getting anything at all from first base and center or right field? In the month of June:

Santana – .189 AVG, .294 OBP
Moss – .211 AVG, 28.3% K%
Bourn – .177 AVG, 28.6% K%, .239 OBP

A third of your every day lineup did that for 30 days. That’s, like, real bad Clark.

And it wouldn’t be a weekly recap without commenting on our record at Progressive Field. We’ve won as many games at home as the team with the best home record in our division (the Twins) has lost (15).

So we’ll never be Royyyalssss. ::cringes:: 6-4 in their last 10, swept the A’s in Oakland over the weekend. They have lost the first two out of three in Houston to open this week, however. Tough schedule leading up to the All-Star break, too: one more in first place Houston, four against the Twins, four against the first place Rays and three versus the red-hot Blue Jays. They’re rumored to be interested in Jeff Samardzija from the White Sox, Johnny Cueto from Cincinnati and/or Cole Hamels in Philly, which would really suck.

The Minnyions find themselves 4.5 games out now after losing two of three to the second-worst team in baseball in Milwaukee over the weekend. Rookie Byron Buxton is probably going to miss a month with a sprained thumb but they do get starter Ervin Santana back on Sunday after an 80 game suspension for PEDs.

I don’t even feel like talking about the Tigers. Down 4-0 with just two hits heading into the 8th inning on Sunday, the idiots came back and got a walk-off dong from their backup catcher James McCann. When are we going to start acknowledging the “At least we’re not Detroit!” curse from the hastily made Cleveland tourism video? They’re currently two games over .500 and six games behind the Royals but we all know who we’re going to be talking about as a playoff team in two months.

That McCann walk-off happened to be against the White Sox. Robin Ventura brought Samardzija back out for the 8th at 100 pitches and even Jeff was like, “Really?” I’m not entirely sure how Ventura still has a job but that’s neither here nor there. Chris Sale continues to do Chris Sale things.

In Other News

  • Grady Sizemore broke up Cody Anderson’s perfect game on Monday with a bomb. Asdrubal Cabrera broke up Danny Salazar’s perfect game on Tuesday with a walk. You can’t make this stuff up, folks.
  • Tribe signed second pick Triston McKenzie:

With that deal, all picks from the first 10 rounds have been signed.

True Detective Reddit Recap: S2 E2 “Night Finds You”

Episode 1 – The Western Book of the Dead

Last night’s episode seems to be getting a fair share of heat on the interwebs, and I think it’s somewhat justified. From Frank’s failed attempt at a Rust Cohle monologue to kick things off until right before that final scene I was in-and-out of it mentally. That being said, I think I felt the exact same way two episodes into season 1 so I’m not pressing the panic button just yet but really it’s because I smashed it watching the Indians yesterday.

Let’s get this out of the way right now though: Ray Velcoro is very much not dead. On one hand, you’d think Pizzolatto would be above the classic “is a main character really dead” TV cliffhanger. On the other, there are plenty of photos from promos and trailers that show Ray in scenes we haven’t seen yet. Now those could be flashbacks or something, as we all know this show isn’t afraid to use multiple timelines. But there wasn’t any blood. This same episode showed a girl watching DP porn and a dead body who had his goodies blown off by a shotgun but they wouldn’t show Velcoro quite literally being blown to bits from about three feet away? I don’t think so, people. Those were rubber bullets or rock salt and meant to be some sort of warning (although I’m pretty sure they’d still do some serious damage from that close).

EDIT: Yeah he’s alive.

(/u/OutspokenHindude and @jonathanesal)

Other bits I learned thanks to Reddit:

  • The car they panned to right before Ray went inside the house was the same car that was transporting Caspere’s body in episode 1 (/u/lonesoldier4789)
  • Artwork in the (creepy ass) therapist’s office showed a human body with bird head similar to Ray’s shooter

(/u/righteousloaf)

  • Wall with animal masks hanging in the final scene was missing one (presumably the bird)

(/u/mstr_roboto)

  • Lone Star sign in the bar 🙂

(/u/PraiseDarkGods)

Reddit theories:

Is Paul gay / why was his mom so touchy-feely in the trailer?

EDIT: Similar and darker Paul theory

Crazy theory that Ani’s hippie dad was part of the Jonestown cult

true1

Frank having his men beat up that guy then “saving him” –> Frank having his men assault Velcoro’s wife then “saving him”? One of his henchmen is a red head…

Until next week.
