First things first- Good for Josh for going to get some help. IF this is legit and not just a publicity stunt (*cough* Manziel *cough*) then this is a good thing for him and I hope he gets the help he needs. No shame in admitting you need help.
That said, this is weird, right? 4 days from being reinstated and no reports (yet) of failing a test. You mean to tell me he just woke up today after serving 90 percent of his suspension and said “I need to go to rehab today.” I just can’t buy that, man.
He’s been around the Browns facility during his suspension:
There was the news last week of a warrant out for his arrest after he failed to submit DNA for a paternity test for over a year. Maybe this is the “pressure and stress” he was referring to in his tweet?
And then there’s the whole Drew Rosenhaus thing. Maybe this is just a power play for his client to get released from a winless team who is rebuilding. If there’s no failed test with Josh, then why wouldn’t he just prolong his suspension/time off, get released, then join another team that doesn’t have a revolving door of quarterbacks? Seems very doubtful but I’m all for a good conspiracy theory.
There’s also this:
Stay motherfucking woke
(he probably failed a test)
Here we go here we go! It’s officially my favorite time of the year and one that I’ve been celebrating since the summer of 2014. It’s the time of year when I think Josh Gordon can come back in football shape, quickly knock off two years of rust (the 2014 season doesn’t count) and be the receiver for the Browns that he was in 2013.
I’m an idiot and I know I’m an idiot, ok? It’s kind of like playing Pokemon as a 27 year old. I know I’m a dork for playing Pokemon Go just like I know I’m an idiot for getting excited about Josh Gordon. It’s all about awareness. I know that getting back to form after a 1+ year layoff is going to be incredibly hard. I know the cards are stacked against him and that there’s a large faction of Browns fans who want him traded. I know he’s been a dipshit and associates himself with other dipshits.
But then there’s this
And then you think about the new coaching staff and Hue Jackson’s love of big and fast wide receivers. And he’s still on his rookie contract. And many teams probably won’t trade any more than a late round pick for him. And he’s really really really talented… annnnnnnd just like that I’m 100% back on the Josh Gordon bandwagon.
Are we going to 100% regret getting excited about this when he inevitably (but hopefully not) fails a drug test in the future? Probably. I’m realistic about the whole thing but that doesn’t mean that I can’t be excited about a RG3, Duke, Flash, Barnidge, and Corey Coleman offense. On paper, it doesn’t look that shitty. Really though, it doesn’t.
My excitement level for this upcoming Browns season was at about a 6 this morning but after this Gordon news I’m at about an 8. Should be fun a fun season. All of our expectations are low but that doesn’t mean this team isn’t full of intriguing storylines.
As we come out of this Cavs championship hangover it’s now full steam ahead into Browns season.
And then there’s this. Fucking Goodell strikes again.
Johnny Manziel says he has found a roommate who is on a quest to get the troubled quarterback back into the NFL.
“I’m living out here with my guy, Von Miller. Everybody knows Von Miller. Super Bowl MVP, Von Miller, my brother. I’m living with him right now,” Manziel told TMZ on Saturday night. “We’re getting our lives together, bro.”
Manziel’s comments were made in the West Hollywood area. Manziel briefly commandeered the TMZ camera before the videographer started asking him questions.
However, sources tell ESPN that the quarterback is actually not living with Miller. Instead, the sources say, Manziel is living with Cleveland wide receiver Josh Gordon in an apartment off of Sunset Boulevard.
For a guy that got suspended indefinitely from the NFL for a year for drinking alcohol, it might not be the best decision to be hanging out with the unemployed guy who has
literally probably maybe been drunk for 45 days straight. I don’t know, it might just me but I can’t imagine Roger Goodell would think too highly of this move.
Look, I don’t care who or what Josh hangs out with in his life as long as he stays clean… but I can’t think of a worse look than living with Manziel. That’s pretty much a slap in the face to the Browns organization, right?
Whatever. By some chance if Josh gets reinstated (starting to highly doubt this) no one will care about this as long as he’s catching touchdowns from his former Baylor and current Browns QB.
Maybe the funniest part about this is that Johnny probably actually does think he’s living with Von Miller instead of Josh Gordon
