LeBron Sends Letter & Package To An Indiana Teen Battling Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy

To first understand this story you need to read Indy Star columnist Greg Doyel’s column about Emanuel Duncan, a 19 year old battling Duchenne muscular dystrophy

The story was published on October 24th.

Here’s where LeBron comes in:

“My bucket list is to meet LeBron,” he tells me. “That’s the one thing I want to do. Meet LeBron James. That’s my role model. He inspires me to do everything. To be a good person, to put other people first, to live your life and do what makes you happy. If I meet LeBron James, that would make my day. I wouldn’t ask for anything.”

I tell Emanuel that LeBron is a great guy and would no doubt be honored to meet him. I tell him, let’s see if the Cleveland Cavaliers are coming to Bankers Life Fieldhouse this season to play the Pacers. Emanuel and I have talked several times, in person and on the phone, and now we’re on the phone and I’m telling him to wait as I look up the Pacers’ sched–

“They’re here Feb. 1,” he tells me.

How did you get that so fast?

“I’ve got the Cavaliers app on my phone.”

LeBron would be lucky to meet this kid. It’s like what Bryan Rutland was thinking when he tried to get Emanuel Duncan on the team. The football team needs, LeBron needs – everyone needs – a little bit of what Emanuel Duncan has.

Fast forward to Thursday night and Doyel gets this text from Emanuel (via @GreggDoyelStar)

Along with the Beats and signed jersey, LeBron also included a letter to Emanuel.

Friday. Feels.

Pretty awesome story about Emanuel Duncan and pretty awesome gesture from LeBron James. Knowing that someone contacted LeBron after reading Doyel’s story and then knowing LeBron took the time out of his day to write this letter and send this package is pretty wonderful. It just shows you that all of the hate that LeBron gets is so unwarranted.

Now let’s get Emanuel to that Pacers-Cavs game on February 1st. We need some Cavs fans in Bankers Life Fieldhouse.

Headline: Quarterback Of The Best Team In The Country Is Calm & Polite During His Arrest

What? No juicy headline to get your blood flowing? Sorry. Here you go:

So when I saw all of these tweets and headlines earlier in the day I thought to myself “Damn, not a good look for JT to pull the ‘Do you know who I am’ card.”

But then I got home and found the video of the arrest (click there because I’m incompetent and don’t know how to embed a TMZ video).

So I watched it…That’s it?

With everything I read earlier today I expected a belligerent dude screaming at a police officer. I expected to see someone who thought he was invincible talking down to the CPD telling them things like “You can’t arrest me, I’m the quarterback at Ohio State!”

But nope. All we got was a 20 year old guy fully cooperating with police officers in probably one of the lowest moments of his life. So he told the officers that he was QB1 for the Buckeyes, you wouldn’t do that either? If I was 20 years old and the face of the #1 team in the country you bet that’d the first thing out of my mouth if a cop asked me anything.

“Sir do you know why I pulled you over?”

“QB1, Ohio State Buckeyes.”

To criticize someone for that is just dumb. It’s like using an FOP card on steroids. If any of us could pull that card we would. People always say things to get out of tickets; girls cry, guys say they have to take a shit. It’s nothing new. Sorry he didn’t want to go to jail?

Also, that cop laughing about Cardale coming to pick JT up was kind of a dickish move.

Uncle Drew Chaper 4 dropped and whoops it’s lit

Gold. Solid gold. Obviously. When are we gonna get LeBron and Kyrie together on the silver screen? We’ve gotta have the most potentially-entertaining-in-a-television-series-or-movie team in the NBA.

In case you didn’t catch those cameos…

I hope there’s an Uncle Drew Anthology by the time Kyrie’s done making these things.
