Southern Ohio butt smuggler gets part of sentence lifted

chelsey

Chelsey Barry, just happy to be here.

From Cleveland.com:

“COLUMBUS, Ohio—A southern Ohio woman can’t be convicted of tampering with evidence after she was caught concealing 56 grams of heroin in her body, the Ohio Supreme Court ruled Wednesday

In a unanimous decision, the court found that Chelsey Barry of Chesapeake should not have been convicted of tampering with evidence, as she did not know at the time she hid the drugs that “an official proceeding or investigation is in progress or likely to be instituted.”

In February 2013, Barry – then 19 – was concealing a condom full of heroin in her body when a state trooper pulled her over for erratic driving. Under questioning, Barry admitted she had agreed to transport the heroin, which has a street value of about $7,500, to Huntington, West Virginia.

Barry was sentenced to six years in prison for drug trafficking, drug possession, and conspiracy. But the judge also tacked on an additional three years for tampering with evidence as punishment for her concealment of the drugs.

But in his opinion, Justice Terrence O’Donnell wrote that the additional three-year sentence should be vacated, as there was no evidence that Barry thought it likely that she would be stopped by law enforcement when driving.”

WHEW. What a relief. I’ve always been on the fence about smuggling heroin in my butt cause of the potential of getting charged with evidence tampering if I got caught. Thanks to Chelsey here, my mind is finally at ease.

Also, I’m no officer of the court or anything like that, and I’m not saying I think she should have been charged with evidence tampering in the first place, but the reasoning behind her sentence being lifted seems a little flimsy, no? “There was no evidence that Barry thought it likely that she would be stopped by law enforcement when driving.” Uh, other than the fact that part of the reason she was pulled over in the first place was for a vehicle defect. Also probably crossed her mind when she committed the moving violation she was cited for.

The original court told jurors they should find Barry guilty of evidence tampering only if she knew at the time of her actions she was committing an “unmistakable crime.” Ain’t no gray area when it comes to $7,500 worth of drugs up your butt, guys. Turns out there’s a brown area though.

Brawl in a Columbus Walmart parking lot ends with a dude getting tased into oblivion

YouTube– Only at Walmart on main st, people fighting and hit getting tased

Nice little brouhaha in a Columbus Walmart parking lot to get your Friday started. There’s just something about seeing someone drop like a sack of bricks after getting hit with a taser, ya know? If you can’t get a good laugh after seeing someone get tased and tensing up as stiff as a board then I don’t want to know you as a person. What makes this video even better is the nice serene rainbow in the background. I almost missed the fight because I was focusing too hard on the rainbow.

How do we know this is in Columbus, you ask? Well, the YouTube uploader is named Tiarra Brundidge. Her Facebook says she currently lives in Columbus. Columbus is also home to a Wal Mart in Whitehall that is located on a “Main Street.” Boom. Journalism 101 by your boys over on Bottlegate dot com.

This gif has been floating around Twitter. Good lord.

Vegas Odds- Ohio State (-12),  OVER/UNDER; 47

All the pundits out there are harping that OSU’s win vs Navy was closer than the score showed. I’m here to tell you that if not for 2 red zone turnovers (an interception and a failed 4th down conversion) Ohio State blows the brakes off of Navy and the whole national narrative changes. Think about it, convert those two red zone chances into just field goals and the Buckeyes drop 40. Not to mention that Navy’s touchdown in the first quarter was NOT a touchdown. The dude’s knee was clearly down. So after I expertly broke that down, the Buckeyes score really should have been 40-10.

But I digress. Now onto this Virginia Tech game. As I type this I’m currently in a car on 71 South driving to Columbus decked out in Buckeye gear. Hang On Sloopy is on the radio and I’m doing the O-H-I-O chant in the backseat. I’m armed with 2 Five Hour Energys at my disposal and some unbridled enthusiasm. There’s NO way Ohio State loses this game. No way.

What to watch for:

The Buckeye defense vs. a traditional offense.

Urban Meyer said it himself that the defense would not even watch the game tape from last weekend. When Facing a Wing T offense, there’s no way to gauge how good a team’s defense actually is. Virginia Tech returns 4 starters from last year’s offensive line. Aside from that experience, Tech is young and inexperienced on that side of the ball. Look for Luke Fickell to dial up the blitzes to try and rattle Texas Tech transfer QB Michael Brewer.

Ohio State offense vs. an aggressive Hokie defense

The Virginia Tech secondary trots out two players who had 5+ interceptions last year. Phil Steele said the Tech may possess the best secondary in the entire nation. I’ll admit that this worries me. The Hokies are always known to play an aggressive blitzing defense. The Ohio State offensive line NEEDS to play 10x better this week to have any chance of moving the ball.

JT Barrett’s second career start

I imagine making your second career start… at night… in front of 105,000 Buckeye fans… on national TV… vs a very established college football program may be just a tad nerve racking. It will be imperative that JT comes out and makes confident, good plays in the beginning of the game. He needs to set the tone early.

Game Prediction

The Buckeyes will come out hyped up as hell this game. I can easily see Virginia Tech trying a trick play right out of the gate. They’ll try and take advantage of the Buckeyes over aggressiveness. Maybe a hitch and go or a wheel route of some sort.

Look for the Buckeyes to try and establish a running game early and rotating backs Ezekiel Elliott and Curtis Samuel. This will open up the play action game and provide JT Barrett with easy reads and throws. Curtis Grant will make a big play on defense and Dontre Wilson final breaks one for a long touchdown.

Buckeyes win 31-20 and but do not cover the 12 point spread and the game goes OVER.
